Have a history tour at the Templar castle
of Ponferrada
In the 11th century, the construction of
the Castle of Ponferrada began. Celts, Romans and Visigoths previously used the
region as a settlement. The Leon Crown handed the castle over to the Templars
to help the pilgrims cross the area. It was dissolved in 1312 and the Castle of
Ponferrada returned to the Crown of León.
It gradually lost its significance in the
19th century, and even the stones of its walls were sold for other buildings.
In 1924, the process of the reconstruction of the castle began. The castle
shows the different walls of those who occupied it and contributed to its
construction as evidence of its different phases.
Perhaps the most beautiful thing about the
Ponferrada Templar castle is its Homage Tower, not to be missed! Check your
visit opening hours and prices.
The fame of Castle Almodóvar del Río has
reached international levels after its appearance in the 7th season of the Game
of Thrones. And for good reason, this medieval castle dating back to the 8th
century, totally refurbished at the beginning of the 20th century, is one of
Spain's best preserved. In addition, it has the honor of never being taken by
siege because of its outstanding location.
Since 2001 its doors have been open and we
recommend that you visit from start to finish and watch the wonderful panorama
of the village and of the river Guadalquivir. Plan your visit and learn about
opening hours and visit types.
The Castell d'En Plaja is a 20th century
castle house. It is the youngest castle in the list, less than 80 years old,
and although not as historically precious as the other castles, it has become
an icon and one of Lloret de Mar's most attractive features.
It is situated on a promontory from which a
beautiful cove can be seen. It gives the area a medieval feel and has a
beautiful walk around the castle. Walking around you will find beautiful
landscapes, some of the best on the Costa Brava, and we guarantee you will take
hundreds of photos between the promenade and the Castell d'En Plaja!
This castle in the Mallorcan Gothic style
of the 14th century is the most unusual on the list. It is and the oldest of
the few circular castles in Europe and a forest-circled museum (Bellver
Forest).
You can enjoy amazing views from the
castle, that make the trip to the hills worthwhile. In fact, Bellver's name
means "lovely view." You'll have a full view of the harbor of Palma
and part of the island from the top. And you can marry within this amazing
castle, especially for future brides and brides! Check opening hours and castle
prices.
Coca Castle is a majestic 15th century
fortification perfectly preserved in the Spanish Gothic-Mudejar style. Its
reddish tones draw attention to the rest of Segovia's pine forest landscape
because of the brick.
This original castle is surrounded by an
unbelievable and deep moat. It is officially owned by the Casa de Alba, but in
1954 it was ceded for 100 years minus a day to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Before visiting, consult the opening hours and prices.
This majestic castle, known as the
"Mendoza Castle" or "The New Castle of Manzanares el Real,"
is a fortress-palace built in the 15th century. Located on a hill in the
village of Manzanares el Real, in the mountains of Madrid, this castle is one
of Spain's best preserved.
The views are really spectacular: on one
side, the Sierra de Guadarrama and La Pedriza can be seen and on the other, the
Santillana reservoir. This is without doubt a magical place that takes you back
to another era due to its excellent conservation status and the improvements
made over the years. Consult the opening hours and prices of the castle.
The castles on the sea have something
special and we can only recommend Castell de Tossa de Mar. This particular
castle is a special place away from the stress and thrill of the nearby coastal
towns. We suggest that you go up to the viewpoint and breathe fresh air from a
charming stone bench.
Tossa de Mar is the most beautiful and best
preserved medieval seaside town in Catalonia and has 7 towers in the 14th century.
